Back to work - integration management at the OVGU

Workplace integration management (BEM) is regulated by law in Social Code IX. According to this, every employee who is absent due to illness for more than 42 days within a 12-month period is entitled to receive support from the university in reintegrating him or her into the work process. To this end, suitable measures are to be jointly developed and implemented in order to overcome the inability to work, to maintain the job and to prevent renewed inability to work. The employee can determine which group of people is included in the process.

Even though this is a provision that was clearly included in the law for the benefit of employees, there is often irritation among employees and supervisors alike about the employer's offer of a discussion.
